Beast, Blue Blood - Chapter 38
Chapter 38
Hisha was really working part-time. At a franchise cafe.
Eugene looked at Hisha standing behind the glass counter in a complex way in his uniform.
His father was an ancient king, his mother a military officer, and now a vampire was working part-time at a franchise cafe… She couldn’t figure out where to start criticizing this absurdity. Or maybe she should admire a world where such vampires can work at cafes.
Even wearing a brown apron and a uniform, Hisha was outstanding. Not only the female customers but even the staff were distracted by him.
Honestly, Eugene, who was no less attractive herself, saw his face and was captivated at first sight.
Suddenly, Eugene got out of the car.
The cafe’s automatic door opened, and she walked in. Then she stood in front of the counter where Hisha was.
“Would you like to order…”
As Hisha spoke and looked up, he spotted Eugene and hesitated.
“Oh, Eugene.”
After scanning the menu behind Hisha, Eugene spoke.
“Americano.”
Hisha didn’t react.
Although surprised by Eugene’s unexpected appearance, she was so beautiful in her white blouse, white skirt, and white jacket that it left him speechless. She was already a beauty, but with her sparkling eyes, she seemed like a goddess in front of him. So he just stared at her, and Eugene raised an eyebrow.
“Aren’t you taking orders?”
“Oh.”
Hisha came to his senses.
“Hot, right?”
He had often drunk coffee but had never seen Eugene drink cold coffee.
“….”
Seeing no response, it seemed correct. Hisha entered the order with force and asked in a low voice.
“What are you doing here?”
Because everyone was paying attention here, it didn’t matter if he asked quietly.
“Your coffee is out-“
Then the barista said in a slightly depressed voice. There were no waiting customers, so the coffee came out right away.
Eugene lifted the coffee cup on the counter and gestured outside.
“Is it time to finish? Come out.”
Outside the window stood her familiar car. Her secretaries, who usually followed her everywhere, were not seen.
Meanwhile, as Eugene left with her coffee, the staff looked at Hisha and mumbled.
“Who is…”
Hisha smiled awkwardly.
“My girlfriend.”
The staff were all surprised, looking at Eugene walking briskly towards her shining car outside the glass window.
“Isn’t she someone important…?”
It was almost a sure tone, as she exuded such an aura. Hisha smiled brightly.
“Yes. Isn’t she wonderful?”
The staff’s faces were speechless. One of them gathered courage and asked softly.
“Does she give you… like, pocket money?”
“Huh? No.”
Hisha responded with a bewildered expression. But the employees didn’t give up and asked again.
“Or maybe she gives you expensive gifts…”
“Not at all.”
Realizing the meaning of the question, Hisha added defensively.
“Eugene is not that kind of person. If anything, I would be the one giving, she has never given me anything.”
Phew.
But now that he said it, it seemed to make Eugene feel weird.
“Anyway, don’t worry. It’s not at all what you think.”
Hisha smiled and took off his apron.
Eugene, guessing the conversation they were having through body language, frowned slightly. Hisha gestured to the staff that everything was fine, took off his apron, and went into the staff room. He emerged a little later dressed casually from the back door.
Meanwhile, two young women who had been waiting outside approached Hisha. Shy faces, glances, and movements—all were those of a female trying to seduce a male.
Although Hisha’s appearance was that of his father, his atmosphere and smiling face were more like his mother, Colonel Kang. He was much more approachable than his ancient Greek statue-like father. Even if he didn’t know, he must have been quite popular at school.
At that moment, Hisha pointed to Eugene and said something to the women. The two women looked at Eugene, who stood arms crossed with an expression of intimidation.
Hisha left the two women alone and approached Eugene, who was standing in front of the car.
“You waited?”
But Eugene didn’t react, so Hisha grinned and asked.
“What’s wrong?”
Eugene, still not giving up on her resentment, glanced briefly at the two women looking at him. Hisha understood why Eugene was like that and reassured her not to worry.
“I told them you’re my girlfriend.”
At that, Eugene put her hand on her hip and looked at him.
“Kiss me.”
It was a combative tone as if challenging him to come forward, but it was a statement he had never expected.
“Huh?”
But Eugene didn’t answer. She just looked at him seriously.
It was even more surprising because Eugene seemed to be denying the clear fact that they were dating. But not wanting to miss this opportunity, Hisha quickly approached her.
“Can I kiss you?”
Eugene still didn’t answer. So Hisha gently cupped her cheek and kissed her.
* * *
Once again, it was a feeling of being entangled. Despite being the one who asked for a kiss.
Eugene sighed as she looked at the scenery passing by outside the car window. Hisha wrapped his arm around her waist as if overflowing with love and sat tightly beside her. It felt like a large guard dog was sticking close by, wagging its tail.
Eugene took a sip of coffee that she had never thought about drinking before.
“……”
Then she looked down at the coffee as if it had insulted her. Hisha laughed awkwardly, seeming to understand the reason.
“Not tasty, right? I’ll take it.”
Taking the coffee, he took a sip, shivered, and then stuck it in the holder, unable to drink it either. Seeing this, Eugene asked incredulously,
“You work knowing it tastes like this?”
“All franchise coffee is like this, what can you do.”
While Hisha wasn’t particularly picky about taste, he had learned about coffee properly from his father, so honestly, if he had to pay for it himself, he wouldn’t have come near this cafe.
Eugene spoke with a tone of deep skepticism.
“So there’s no pride in your work?”
“Yeah. Maybe?”
“A company that can’t instill pride in its employees is the problem.”
Eugene said absentmindedly and looked out the window, and Hisha looked at her. Seeing her white clothes, he felt strangely restless. And looking at the side of Eugene’s face with fuzz on her cheeks, he couldn’t help but ask.
“Eugene, will you marry me?”
So he eventually said.
Eugene paused and turned around.
“What?”
Hisha didn’t say it again. Just as if he knew that she had heard it.
Eugene didn’t hide her surprised expression.
“Are you serious?”
“Yes.”
Hisha smiled faintly, wrapping her hand.
“Because I don’t want to break up with you, Eugene.”
It’s been a while since she received such pure love. No, it felt like the first time. She hasn’t raised a dog.
“I’m Russian, too, for starters.”
Then he said something meaningless. It seemed to be related to Sergei Aleushin, but anyway, it’s okay.
“Do you know I haven’t given up on virus development yet?”
Hisha narrowed his eyes slightly.
“You can’t give up on that?”
Then he brought Eugene’s hand to his lips and kissed it.
“I’ll be good.”
Knowing that it’s not a simple problem to just move on like this.
Eugene took her hand out of Hisha’s.
“I know. I like you, and you like me. We have sex, we go on dates and stuff. Let’s take a step back and call it a relationship. But marriage is a different matter altogether. The man who’s going to be my husband has to be strong.”
Then Eugene’s sarcasm was painfully cold.
“Unless you get ISLE.”
Hisha, who didn’t expect such a story, lost his words for a moment and barely said.
“Eugene. Life is short. It’s not enough to live with such a fixation….”
“Why is life short? You can live forever.”
Eugene cut him off. Suddenly, Hisha frowned at the thought.
“Maybe, Eugene….”
Eugene smiled slightly.
“Did you think the whole point of developing a virus was so that I could be a fool? So that my father could be immortalized and I could grow old and die?”
Hisha said nothing.
“Why?”
Eugene asked.
“Because you think I’m after something you’ve had since birth, so you’ve lost affection for me?”
Eugene seemed about to laugh mockingly. Hisha sighed.
“It’s not like that.”
“If it’s not like that, then what? I don’t know what fantasy you’ve projected onto me.”
“If I could live forever….”
Hisha slowly continued.
“Do you want to live forever, just like this?”
She understood what every situation meant. Half-brothers who wouldn’t hesitate to plant a bomb in her car, fear and malicious rumors directed towards her, a father demanding dangerous items as ransom for inheritance…
“So I need power. Strength that no one can shake.”
Eugene looked at Hisha.
“All I can promise you is that I won’t use you as an experiment.”
She pushed at his chest.
“So go. Go and live your life, Hisha Ivanov.”
