Beast, Blue Blood - Chapter 28
Chapter 28
“Hey. Look at me.”
When Ha-yeon spoke, Pierlu lifted his eyes as instructed. Ha-yeon lowered the black mask she was wearing.
Pierlu, unable to understand the action, showed a puzzled expression, which soon turned into a suspicious one upon seeing a face that looked too much like Hisha’s.
“You… What is your relationship with Kim Young-soo?”
The black eyes looking at him glimmered with a faint light.
“I’m his guardian. I’ve come to find a missing child.”
* * *
Armed men closed in, causing Hisha to hesitate. At this rate, escaping seemed impossible unless a deus ex machina appeared.
Then suddenly, there was a noise. Everyone, including Hisha, turned reflexively.
“Run! Move!”
A shout was followed by the sound of running, gunshots, and finally the roar of a car engine.
Vroom!
But how could that be? They were inside a mansion.
Vroom!
Yet, unmistakably, it was the sound of a car approaching.
At that moment, a car appeared around the corner of the hallway. It was a red pickup truck that fit perfectly into the hallway.
For a moment, everyone froze at the unbelievable sight. Then, like a wall being pushed, they all started running toward Hisha’s group as the truck charged forward. The truck, speeding at full throttle, didn’t seem like it would stop to avoid people.
“What the hell!”
“Move!”
“Get out of the way!”
It was complete chaos. It felt like they had fallen into a sitcom, but Hisha and his group had no choice but to run in the opposite direction.
“Run, run!”
Vroom!
But the truck accelerated even more. Despite looking like an old-fashioned pickup truck that wouldn’t have an automatic driving system, it skillfully avoided crashing into walls, sliding forward like a trap in Alibaba’s cave.
Suddenly, Hisha, having spotted something, turned sharply as if he were a car leaving skid marks. He then started running toward the truck.
“You…!”
“Come back!”
Ignoring the shouts from behind, he ran head-on towards the truck. Just before they collided, like a baseball player sliding into third base, he slid under the truck.
Grabbing the underside of the truck just before he fully emerged from beneath it, he swung around and landed in the truck’s bed.
Men, both allies and enemies, who had been knocked over to the side of the hallway scrambled away as the truck flew out of the entrance like it had wings. With a thud, it hit the ground and immediately started running again.
Without stopping, the passenger door swung open, and Ha-yeon, wearing a black hat, shouted.
“Get in!”
“You!”
Holding onto the edge of the truck bed, Hisha almost started singing. Rejoice, the Savior has come.
* * *
The truck, which had been standing in the garden, moved, but no one paid it any mind until it began to charge towards the mansion. Then, bursting through the back gate, it soon emerged from the front gate like a Jonah leaping from the mouth of a whale. After a brief flight over the low steps and a thud landing on the ground, it spun its wheels a few times and began to accelerate forward.
On various security camera screens showing different angles of the mansion, guards could be seen shouting and running after it.
“Could that be…?”
HRT team members watching the monitors exchanged astonished looks.
On the screen, beyond the truck’s windshield crossing the garden, two figures loomed. The passenger seat figure was unmistakably Hisha, and though the driver’s face was obscured under a deeply pressed hat, it was almost certainly Ha-yeon.
Among the frozen team members, the first to snap to attention was their team leader, who promptly took charge of the situation.
“These troublemakers are for real!”
The team leader shouted as if to steel themselves.
“Team, deploy immediately!”
* * *
As the pickup truck raced through the gardens at a speed it had never driven before in its life, the gates were closing in the distance.
The guards at the gate frantically gestured, urging the automatic closing of the gate. If this old-fashioned truck collided with the newly reinforced gate, it would undoubtedly crumple like paper.
“Faster!”
Whether Hisha anxiously shouted or not, Ha-yeon clenched her teeth and focused on driving.
The gate was nearly closed, leaving just enough space for the pickup truck to pass through. Ha-yeon pressed down harder on the accelerator, already at maximum throttle. The entire truck trembled as if it would burst at any moment.
Thud!
However, cruelly, the gate closed shut. Ha-yeon clicked her tongue.
“Watch out! We’re going to hit!”
At Hisha’s interference, Ha-yeon shouted furiously and turned the steering wheel.
“I know. Shut up! I have eyes too!”
The wheels scraped against the ground as the truck changed direction. Gravel flew outside the window, stirred up into a dusty wind.
The pursuing cars drew closer, gradually closing the gap in their encirclement. Ha-yeon pressed the accelerator with all her might. No, she was about to press it.
Vroom!
Suddenly, a massive white truck appeared from outside the fence and, without warning, crashed head-on into the front gate.
Crash!
There was a loud crash as the gate was flattened under the truck.
Hisha and Ha-yeon looked at each other.
The next moment, Ha-yeon slammed hard on the accelerator. With a scraping sound of tires on sandy ground, the truck lunged forward. Then, it passed through the front gate alongside the cargo truck. Painted on the side of the passing cargo truck was an anthropomorphized cute blue elephant smiling, with large letters next to it:
<Blue Elephant Moving Center
We’ll go anywhere our customers are.>
Hisha watched as the truck disappeared beyond the rear window in an instant.
“Why is it always a blue elephant?”
“Is that important right now?”
Ha-yeon chuckled, not taking her eyes off the front windshield. Hisha realized there was something more urgent and shouted.
“Right! We need to call Eugene!”
Someone needed to warn her that her life was in danger.
Ha-yeon couldn’t hide her incredulous expression.
“Are you crazy? She’s the one who imprisoned you.”
“But she didn’t hurt me.”
“She probably made you feel good, didn’t she?”
“Huh?”
Hisha smiled knowingly as if he understood what was being implied. Ha-yeon considered just throwing everything out the window. Nonetheless, they had to prevent loss of life, so he asked.
“Anyway, what’s her phone number?”
“Uh…”
‘Come to think of it, what is Eugene’s phone number?’ Hisha thought. Without asking twice, Ha-yeon shouted.
“Choi Myung-jin!”
[Ugh, my ears are going to fall off. What is it?]
“What’s Eugene Fuger-Dulloch’s phone number?”
[Wait. Phone number… Phone number… Oh, I didn’t ask for her phone number.]
Ha-yeon muttered, not wanting to believe this reality.
“They’re all useless.”
At that moment, Myung-jin finally managed to find the phone number.
[She’s not picking up.]
“Fine. Let’s go see Eugene right now.”
Hisha said, slamming the car down and urging them on.
“Hurry up! Speed up!”
“How can I speed up in this old truck!”
Unable to bear the irritation any longer, Ha-yeon turned around and shouted when suddenly, Hisha widened his eyes and pointed ahead.
“Watch out!”
An SUV that had accelerated from behind suddenly swerved to block the truck. Just before the collision, Ha-yeon urgently hit the brakes.
Screeeech!
The truck lurched forward once, then thudded to a stop. Armed men jumped out of the SUV that had unexpectedly cut off their path. Hisha also slammed the door and ran out.
“Hey!”
Ha-yeon shouted and hurriedly followed. But then she noticed something, hesitated, and started to step back. However, Hisha, who was running towards the SUV, didn’t know.
“Master!”
One of the men who got out of the SUV called out to Hisha.
“Mister!”
Hisha ran towards him as if they were separated family members about to embrace, but then he passed him and leaped towards the SUV instead. The man looked at Hisha with a bewildered expression. Immediately, Hisha, who was already inside the SUV, urgently gestured to the men.
“Hurry!”
Without waiting for the men to come, Hisha did not wait for the special vehicles to quickly respond to variables and emergencies because they were still driven by people and shouted to the members sitting in the driver’s seat.
“Step on!”
“Yes? Where is it…”
The soldier in the driver’s seat was also puzzled.
“Eugene, Eugene! You know where she is, don’t you?”
If it’s a giant like Eugene, it’s natural that they’re tracking her location.
“I know, but why is she…”
It was when the soldier was speaking.
Vroom!
Suddenly, the sound of a motorcycle engine could be heard from somewhere, and Ha-yeon, wearing a helmet, appeared riding the bike next to the open car door. Hisha reflexively caught the helmet thrown at him.
“Ride.”
Ha-yeon gestured behind herself. Hisha immediately put on the helmet and grabbed the assist grip mounted on the car ceiling, lifting himself onto the back seat of the bike. As soon as he sat down, the bike took off at tremendous speed.
“Master! Miss!”
The soldiers shouted, but the bike was already speeding away between the cars. The soldiers quickly got back into their cars.
“These troublemakers are real!”
Meanwhile, the bike with Ha-yeon and Hisha sped away from the section where the cars were gathering onto the road. Ha-yeon quickly increased the speed in one breath. The scenery blurred and the vanishing point seemed to come closer.
However, not long after, Ha-yeon began to slow down again. The interchange was congested with cars. Hisha momentarily felt despair, realizing there was no time even to despair, and he tried to get off the bike immediately. Ha-yeon reached out and stopped him.
“What are you trying to do?”
“We can’t just sit here. We have to go, even if we have to run.”
At that, Ha-yeon didn’t hide her determined gaze behind the helmet’s visor.
“With that determination, you should’ve gone to Harvard.”
“When someone’s life is at stake, Harvard is the problem now?”
Hisha retorted, but Ha-yeon, too lazy to respond, gestured again for him to get back on the bike and grabbed the handlebars.
“You owe me for this.”
With that, without waiting for a response, Ha-yeon turned the bike’s direction sharply. The tires squealed against the ground, emitting a rubber-burning smell.
“Hold on tight. If you fall off, it’s your fault.”
After saying that, Ha-yeon raced back in the direction they had come from. Seeing this, Hisha asked in confusion.
“Where are we going?”
“Wait.”
Ha-yeon dismissed him with a single word and focused on driving.
