Beast, Blue Blood - Chapter 1
Chapter 1
Click.
The gun was loaded, and the barrel aimed forward.
Bang.
The bullet hit the oncoming head precisely. The zombie’s head exploded, splattering blood and blocking the view, as more zombies charged forward. The gun barrel fired multiple times.
Bang bang. Bang.
Every bullet hit its target accurately.
Click.
Reloading the gun, she narrowed her eyes and focused. A zombie was hiding behind the cover. As soon as the zombie lunged out—
Bang.
The last zombie fell, and the word “PERFECT” flashed on the screen. Students watching from outside the game box exclaimed in admiration, “Oh~”.
They then curiously glanced at the man in a sophisticated navy suit standing next to the game box. No matter how modern the arcade was, his presence seemed out of place.
Soon, the automatic door of the game box opened, and a woman in a white blouse and gray dress pants emerged. The man in the suit turned and spoke.
“Director.”
“Is it already time?”
Eugene asked, putting on the jacket that her secretary, Nasiri, handed her. Nasiri nodded.
“Yes.”
As they stepped outside, a dignified-looking car was waiting in front of the arcade, with a young male secretary standing by it. Passersby glanced at the shiny car as they walked by.
The rear door opened automatically, and Eugene got into the car. Nasiri and the other secretary followed, taking seats opposite her.
The autonomous car, with its sofa-like interior and absence of a driver and passenger seat, felt more like a room.
[Where should I take you?]
The car’s AI asked and Nasiri replied.
“Knox Genomics headquarters.”
[Departing now.]
As the car started moving, Eugene casually crossed her legs and gazed at the passing scenery. Watching her, Nasiri commented.
“You seem quite stressed from the shareholders’ meeting.”
Eugene muttered while looking out the window.
“Is there any point in getting stressed? They’re all idiots.”
‘She seems particularly stressed this time.’
Nasiri thought as Eugene glanced at him and spoke.
“Apologies for the inelegant language.”
“You don’t need to apologize to me.”
Nasiri replied with a slight bow. Eugene turned her gaze back to the window.
She had five siblings, but since they were all half-siblings with different mothers, they were just troublesome entities she had to share her inheritance, without any real bonds. If only they did their jobs well, she might not have minded, but all they did was hinder her efforts and constantly obstruct her plans.
Eugene sighed and looked ahead. Suddenly, a gray, human-shaped figure darted out from beyond the windshield. Eugene’s eyes widened.
“In front…!”
Nasiri and the secretary started to turn in surprise.
Thud.
A collision sound followed, and the car braked abruptly. Everyone lurched forward, grabbing onto the seats or handles to avoid falling.
