Alien Bar: Found a Wizard Girl, Gale Sword - Chapter 8: Follow me home.
Leon brought the excited Lanya to the convenience store. Along the way, the young girl curiously looked around, asking questions about everything she saw, chattering like a little sparrow.
Fortunately, it was already late at night, and there weren’t many people on the streets; otherwise, she would surely have been mistaken for a strange person.
The convenience store was located at an intersection, just a few minutes’ walk from the entrance of the Emerald Bar. As they approached the door, the glass doors automatically slid open with a welcoming electronic sound.
Startled, Lanya took a step back and raised her wand in her hand – which looked more like a twig.
A woman in her thirties, dressed as an office worker, walked out of the store. After giving the two of them a strange look, she hurriedly left.
Leon pressed down on Lanya’s wand-holding hand and chuckled, finding it a bit amusing to explain, “Don’t worry, this is an automatic sensor door.”
“Oh.”
Lanya lowered her wand, embarrassedly pulled down her hat brim, and followed Leon into the store.
Leon bought two pieces of bread and two cups of hot milk. Amid the strange looks from the staff, he paid the bill and hastily left with Lanya.
“This smells so good. Can I eat it now?” Lanya’s small hand trembled slightly as she held the bread.
Leon smiled and said, “Of course.”
Lanya tore open the packaging and took a bite of the bread. Her amethyst-like eyes trembled slightly, and a light of happiness and gratitude shone in her eyes.
“You’re really kind, not only did you treat me to grapes, but you also gave me such delicious food. I’ll definitely repay you.”
Her reaction was quite exaggerated. Leon wondered what kind of life she had led before.
“It’s just a piece of bread; there’s no need to talk about repaying me. Don’t worry about it.”
Lanya took another sip of the hot milk, the sweet and warm liquid flowing into her mouth, bringing an unprecedented warmth. She lifted the milk bottle and added, “Not just bread, there’s this too.”
The two of them returned to the Emerald Bar. The “Open for Business” sign on the door had already been turned off, and the wind chime at the entrance tinkled softly, making a faint sound.
Leon turned the doorknob, but the door didn’t open. “Could it be that they closed so early?”
He knocked on the door, but there was no response.
What should he do now? He had to send this child back; he couldn’t leave her alone on the streets at night.
He didn’t have the keys to the shop, nor did he have Lanya’s or Elyse’s contact information. However, he did have the shop owner’s phone number; he had contacted the owner when he applied for the job.
Right, he could call the shop owner.
Leon immediately took out his phone and dialed the shop owner’s number.
Lanya, on the other hand, seemed completely unaware of her situation. She finished eating her bread, drank her milk, and then focused her attention on the bag Leon was holding.
The call was answered. “Hello, is this the owner?”
“Yeah, it’s Leon. Sorry to call you so late” “Is there something you need?” A somewhat neutral voice came from the other end of the line.
After explaining the situation, the owner chuckled and said, “Looks like you’ve already figured out what’s special about our shop. You’re not planning to run away, are you?”
“As long as my salary is paid, I won’t leave.”
The six-hour work shift and the generous pay were among the reasons Leon had chosen this shop.
“Haha, that’s good. You’re the first candidate I’ve chosen. I’d be really sad if you ran away.”
“Owner, could you contact Nilu or Elise and ask them to open the door for me? I want to take this child back.”
“I’m afraid that’s not possible. They’re not in the shop anymore, and it’s after closing time. I can’t make them come back.”
“Could you please—”
“I can’t, I’m quite busy right now. Just let her stay with you for the night; it’s fine.”
“Hey, owner—”
Suddenly, there was a loud explosion on the other end of the phone, followed by silence.
Leon glanced at Lanya, who was busy licking the inside of the milk bottle with her tongue sticking out, feeling helpless. It seemed he could only take her back himself.
“Lanya, would you like to stay at my place for the night?”
Putting down the milk bottle, Lanya had a circle of milk residue around her mouth.
“Sure.”
She agreed almost immediately, without any hesitation.
Leon was surprised. “You trust me so easily? Aren’t you afraid I might be a bad person?”
Lanya’s smile was full of trust. “I’ve already said before, you’re a good person with a pure soul.”
“You can actually see souls?”
“Of course, I’m a… wizard.”
“What wizard?”
Two words were spoken too softly, and Leon didn’t catch them.
“Well, it’s nothing.”
Lanya lowered her head, seeming a bit embarrassed. Seeing her expression, Leon didn’t press further. He led her back to his place.
He lived in a rented apartment nearby on the seventh floor. Besides his own room, two other rooms were rented out—one to a couple and the other to a male college student.
Based on Earth’s GMT+8 time zone, Leon’s working hours at the Emerald Bar were from 6:00 PM to 12:00 AM. When he and Lanya returned to the apartment building, it was just past 12:30 AM.
“Wow, is this Mr. Leon’s castle? It’s so tall.”
Lanya supported her hat and looked up at the tall building in front of her, which was full of windows.
“It’s just one room inside, and it’s not even mine. I’m just a tenant.”
“Oh.”
The sensor light on the first floor was broken and hadn’t been fixed yet, making it a bit dim.
When the elevator door opened, warm and bright light dispelled the darkness. Leon stepped inside and pressed the button for the seventh floor. He noticed that Lanya was still standing outside.
“What’s wrong?”
In the glow of the elevator lights, Leon saw a blush on her face.
“Is this Mr. Leon’s room? It seems quite small. Even if Mr. Leon has a clean soul, I would still feel shy spending the night in such a narrow room with a man I just met today.”
Leon was amused and exasperated. “This isn’t my room; it’s the elevator.”
“The elevator?”
“In a moment, I’ll explain. Come inside for now, or else the elevator will start beeping.”
Lanya finally stepped into the elevator, her curiosity evident as she asked, “Are you saying this small room will beep? What does it sound like?”
“It’s a beeping warning sound.”
“Really? I’d love to hear it.” She was like a curious child.
The elevator door closed, and as it started moving upward, Lanya grabbed onto Leon’s arm.
“This metal room is moving?”
“Don’t worry, we’ll be there soon.” Leon reassured her.
The elevator stopped on the seventh floor, and when the doors opened again, Lanya grabbed Leon’s arm and stepped out.
Leon gave a faint smile and led her to room 703. After entering the passcode, he let her inside.
As they entered, the door to the neighboring room on the right suddenly opened, and a young man in a vest and underwear walked out. His hair was disheveled, and he wore glasses.
He was one of the tenants in the apartment, a student from a nearby university who claimed to be preparing for postgraduate exams, though Leon mostly saw him playing games all night.
The two didn’t exchange many words, but Leon had seen his name in the tenant list – he seemed to be named Gao Wenyang.
Seeing the two entering the room, he adjusted his glasses, his gaze sweeping over Lanya, who was holding onto Leon’s arm. She was still wearing her wizard robe, along with an exaggerated large hat.
“Hmm? A cosplayer?”
