Alien Bar: Found a Wizard Girl, Gale Sword - Chapter 30: First mission
“Enough, let’s leave it be.” ” Leon sighed, a hint of reluctance in his voice. Serving under Elise’s command as a subordinate was proving to be quite a challenge.
“Haha, don’t worry. It will grow back soon.” Elise chuckled as she gently patted the head of the small spider minion before it silently scurried away.
Leon put the pincers into a spatial ring and got ready to return to the city with Lanya to report the mission. The journey back was undisturbed, there were no more spiders bothering him and Lanya.
Emerging from the cave, they were greeted by a sky painted in hues of red. Two fallen lizardmen lay near the entrance, defeated by an unknown force. six horses were grazing leisurely in the nearby grassland.
“I suppose riding back on horseback is the better option; otherwise, we’ll be walking until sunrise,” Leon suggested.
Contemplating the distance to Castalonne, Leon couldn’t help but wonder how Elise and Nilu managed their daily commute from this remote location. Nilu had wings to fly, but could Elise, whose true form was quite robust, also take to the skies?
Lanya hesitated, “But I’ve never ridden a horse before.”
“I’ll carry you. Just be cautious not to slip,” Leon reassured her.
Lanya recalled how Leon had carried her while they were escaping, like a little tree squirrel in his arms. Her cheeks turned rosy in the evening sun, and she nodded gently.
Approaching the horses, Leon carefully selected the sturdiest one – its coat glistened with a healthy sheen, its muscles defined. If sold in the city, it would fetch a considerable sum.
“Front or back?” Leon asked, indicating where Lanya would prefer to sit.
Lanya thought for a moment and blushed, “In the front. I’m afraid I might fall off if I sit in the back.”
Assisting Lanya onto the horse’s back, Leon ensured she was secure before urging the horse in the direction of Castalonne. The fading light of day accompanied their journey home.
After their hasty escape earlier, the return journey felt more relaxed. Leon even found himself able to appreciate the panoramic beauty of the plains under the warm hues of the setting sun.
Upon their return to the city, the night sky was adorned with a tapestry of twinkling stars.
Beneath the starry expanse, they strolled through the streets and alleys.
Back at the bar, as Leon took out his phone from behind the counter, Lanya looked surprised and exclaimed, “Oh? So you didn’t bring your phone with you?”
Blushing, Leon bid her goodnight and hastily retreated to the lounge.
Reclining on the sofa, Lanya’s eyes, reminiscent of violets, mirrored her puzzled thoughts. So, back then, it wasn’t a frog hopping around in his pocket? What could it have been?
But the mystery remained unsolved. Instead, her thoughts shifted to the mortifying incident that had left her thoroughly humiliated.
That infuriating Elise. I will have my revenge sooner or later…
The following day, the two of them went to the Adventurer’s Guild to complete their mission. Their small team was officially established, granting them access to the guild’s information and the ability to take on tasks.
Lanya had been excited from the moment they stepped out, and after finishing the registration process, she eagerly pulled Leon towards the bulletin board.
“Captain, captain, let’s pick a mission!” Lanya, feeling somewhat embarrassed to be the captain, had passed the role to Leon, assuming the position of vice-captain herself.
Seeing her enthusiastic demeanor, Leon decided to choose a relatively simple mission to satisfy her mood, considering they didn’t have to work today.
His gaze was scanning the bulletin board when a surprised voice suddenly came from beside him.
“Hey, it’s you guys.”
Leon turned to find the monk girl from the previous day, her name lingering at the edges of his memory—Seria, if he recalled correctly.
Lanya caught sight of Seria and her oversized violet eyes grew wary, causing her to inch closer to Leon.
“Well, fancy meeting you here,” Seria greeted.
“Are you two planning to take on a mission?” Seria was genuinely surprised; after all, this man had been casually conversing with the lord of the spider cave. Why would he need to come to the Adventurer’s Guild for a mission?
“Yes, we just registered our team. Thinking of tackling a straightforward task to get some practice. And you?” Leon responded.
Just registered a team? Could this man possibly be a high-level monster in disguise, infiltrating Castalorn as a human? Although he didn’t appear threatening, the girl beside him seemed slightly hostile, yet didn’t appear to pose much of a threat either.
Seria’s imagination began to wander again as she speculated on their identities. She then said, “Because I gave you all my money yesterday, I thought of taking on a commission to earn some gold.”
Suddenly, as if realizing something, Seria corrected herself, “Ah, not that I’m complaining. I’m truly grateful for your help yesterday. That money was well-deserved.”
But Leon was thinking, she had said there was more money in the city if needed yesterday, but now she was at the Adventurer’s Guild to make money. Had she been lying back then?
“By the way, would you like to complete a commission together?” Seria’s curiosity got the better of her as she invited Leon and Lanya to form a team, hoping that they might uncover something during the mission.
“Sure thing,” Leon responded with a hint of eagerness, his mind not delving too deeply into the invitation.
He simply felt that Seria was quite skilled; otherwise, she wouldn’t have ventured so deep into the spider cave and attracted the attention of Elise, the lord of the cave.
Traveling with her should make things much safer, even though Lanya seemed somewhat reluctant.
Seeing Leon’s agreement, Seria’s face lit up with a bright smile.
“Then please go ahead and choose a mission,” Seria offered.
“Let me have a look,” Leon’s gaze swept over the notice board before he pointed to a particular one, asking, “How about this?”
After seeing the content of the commission, Seria managed a strained smile and said, “This one seems a bit… too simple, doesn’t it? How about something slightly more challenging?”
Asking her to clear slimes from a vegetable garden was an insult to her dignity as a lone wolf adventurer. Throughout her journey, she had traveled alone due to her confidence in her own abilities. Inviting Leon to form a team was only to ascertain his intentions.
But for him to suggest taking her to a farm to deal with slimes? What a joke.
“Is that so? Then let’s pick another one,” Leon said, with a hint of disappointment. He had wanted to see what real slimes looked like. Since that was the case, he might as well choose a slightly more difficult task.
“Oh, this one looks good. How about dealing with the aggressive wild boars in the swamp?” Leon suggested.
If possible, Seria really didn’t want to wrestle with boars in a swamp, but if she kept refusing, he might become displeased. So, she reluctantly agreed.
The mission was situated near a village to the city’s east, where large wild boars had been emerging from the marshes lately, wreaking havoc on farms and even attacking travelers and farmers. As compensation, the villagers had pooled resources and enlisted the Adventurer’s Guild’s assistance.
Leaving the city, the trio arrived at the village where the mission was posted. They inquired about the precise location of the swamp from the village elder.
Upon learning that the three were there to deal with the wild boar, the elderly village head became unusually excited, especially upon spotted the splendid staffs carried by Leon and Lanya.
However, he still offered a cautionary note: “Mages, please be extremely cautious. That beast isn’t an ordinary boar. I’ve lived a long life, and I’ve never seen a boar that large. The arrows of hunters can’t even penetrate its hide.”
After bidding farewell to the village elder, the trio followed his directions and arrived at the habitat of the wild boar.
A vast expanse of black marsh sprawled before them, roughly comparable in size to a football field. Nestled beneath a towering tree at the heart of the swamp was a robust wild boar, its ebony fur glistening in the ambient light. Its monumental figure resembled a miniature mountain, and the bristles along its neck stood upright like a bristling hedgehog’s spines, even while it slumbered. The very air around it seemed charged with an aura of ferocity.
Upon seeing the colossal form of the boar, Lanya became somewhat fearful. She clutched Leon’s arm and whispered, “Maybe we shouldn’t provoke it. It doesn’t seem like we stand a chance at all.”
Leon was also somewhat hesitant. He had never encountered a wild boar this large before; it was nearly as big as a fully grown elephant.
What set it apart from an elephant, however, was its disproportionately robust upper body. Its two front legs and the muscles on its back seemed as though they could burst open, giving the impression that its combat prowess might surpass even that of an elephant.
“What do you think, Seria?”
Fixated on the dark mire of the swamp, Seria’s brow knitted in thought. The terrain, she concluded, was far from ideal for a battleground.
“I propose we draw it out using magic. I’ll divert its attention while you two focus on unleashing magical attacks,” Seria strategized.
