Alien Bar: Found a Wizard Girl, Gale Sword - Chapter 24: Training.
Necromancers , due to their associations with undead and the undead races, not only fail to gain respect but are often viewed as ominous and malevolent beings, unwelcome in most places.
Lanya also didn’t want to be a necromancer, but her talents seemed to lean towards necromantic magic. She struggled with other types of magic, like fireballs and wind blades, with a success rate of less than ten percent. She couldn’t master even basic spells properly. Reluctant to reveal her necromancer identity, Lanya had to use magic she wasn’t proficient in, which made it difficult for her to find a group willing to accept her.
Facing Leon’s inquiry, Lanya lowered her head, saying, “I’m sorry, I’m an evil necromancer. Please forgive me for keeping it from you.”
Leon asked, “Have you ever disturbed the resting dead?”
Necromancers could summon the spirits of the deceased through their bodies and forcibly control their corpses. The stronger the person was when they were alive, the more powerful they would be in combat. Most necromancers were drawn to various underground tombs in search of powerful corpses, as using one could greatly enhance their combat abilities.
Lanya quickly shook her head, “No, I’ve only summoned undead creatures from the underworld. I’ve never thought about desecrating anyone’s grave.”
Leon smiled warmly, “In that case, it doesn’t matter. Don’t worry, I won’t judge you based on that.”
Lanya softly asked, “So, would you still be willing to team up with me?”
“Of course, as soon as I finish work, we’ll go complete the adventurer guild’s registration task.”
Lanya’s eyes lit up with joy, “Really?”
“Absolutely.”
“That’s wonderful! Thank you, Leon.”
Lanya’s excitement was evident, and she seemed to envision a brighter future as an official adventurer.
After work, Leon changed into different clothes in the break room. Just as he expected, he found Nilu no longer sleeping on the couch; she had taken over his bed.
He glanced at Nilu on the bed, peacefully cocooned in the covers. Her form displayed graceful curves, accentuated by the way she lay.
Leon changed his clothes and attempted to wake Nilu. “Wake up, it’s the end of the shift.”
Stretching lazily, Nilu sat up, accidentally popping open a couple of buttons on her shirt. “Hmm, work’s already over? Do you need the bed now?” she mumbled, still seemingly not fully awake.
Leon explained, “I need to leave the city for a bit.”
“Great, I’ll catch some more sleep then. This bed is just too comfy,” she said with a satisfied yawn.
Shaking his head in resignation, Leon left the break room. Lanya was waiting outside, her face flushed with excitement.
“Let’s go.”
“Okay!”
Lanya held her staff tightly, nodding enthusiastically.
…
Outside Castalonne, the terrain was flat, with gentle slopes covered in a blanket of green grass. A wide dirt road meandered into the distance, splitting at the base of a low hill.
Leon ascended the hillside path, his magical cloak rustling in the refreshing plains breeze. In his hand, he held a sleek black staff. The staff was about 1.5 meters long, with a comfortable grip for Leon’s hand. At its top, there were a few thicker rings, and embedded in the highest one was a brilliant blue gem that sparkled like a beacon in the sunlight.
Although the staff was somewhat heavy due to its rare magical metal construction, it suited Leon perfectly. He felt the reassuring weight of it in his hand. . According to Allison, the staff was made from rare magical metal, boasting excellent magical conductivity. It had limited production, and its price of three thousand gold coins was definitely worth it.
Standing atop the hill, Leon surveyed the landscape. Before him stretched the verdant plains, culminating in a grand mountain range that resembled a colossal dragon coiled upon the earth. This range held the cave of spiders mentioned in their registration task, and it was about a four to five-hour journey from Castalonne.
Today marked Leon’s sixth day of work, and according to the employment contract, he was due to have his day off tomorrow. He had decided to accompany Lanya outside the city to complete the adventurer guild’s registration task and take the opportunity to test the new magic he had learned.
As they walked along the road, they suddenly heard the urgent sound of approaching hooves from behind. Leon and Lanya moved to the side of the road to let the riders pass.
Turning around, Leon saw a group of riders thundering towards them from the slope below. The riders were all cloaked in black robes, their identities concealed beneath the dark fabric.
Nervously gripping Leon’s arm, Lanya whispered, “There’s a strong sense of hostility. It seems like they’re coming for us. We should flee.”
Leon replied in surprise, “Coming for us? Really?”
In this world, he had barely met a few people, let alone made any enemies.
Without allowing him much time to think, the group of riders approached. Slowing down, they surrounded Leon and Lanya, forming a circle of seven.
Leon finally saw their true faces: lizard-like heads protruding from beneath the black robes, tails trailing behind.
A sudden realization struck Leon, and his expression soured. Could these be the same people who had attempted to assassinate Prince Leiyang yesterday? Had they seen Leon and Prince Leiyang together and, with Prince Leiyang gone missing, turned their focus onto him?
Before he could analyze further, the lead rider barked a command, “Capture them!”
Six of the lizard-riders dismounted in mid-air, drawing curved blades as they gracefully landed. The sunlight glinted off the blades, creating a dazzling spectacle.
Without a moment to waste, Leon raised his staff, infused it with magic, and quickly formed a fireball. However, the attackers’ blades were already descending so Leon raised his staff, using it as a makeshift weapon to parry the flurry of incoming strikes. He managed to block their attacks, but he had no opportunity to counterattack. He was in a defensive position, using the staff to form a protective barrier against the onslaught.
Leon was a bit frustrated. He wanted to engage in an elegant battle as a mage, but it seemed he wasn’t quite there yet. He had to resort to less refined tactics.
Fortunately, he had some experience in hand-to-hand combat from his training back home.
While the attackers were momentarily taken aback by Leon’s defense, he felt the strain of the situation. These skilled assailants were relentless, and even with his defensive efforts, he was being pushed back.
As the confrontation continued, Leon weighed his options. These six were formidable foes, and he had to consider Lanya’s safety. Suddenly, an idea struck him.
Pouring his magical energy into the staff, Leon’s eyes glowed with determination. The staff’s tip ignited with a bluish light, rapidly coalescing into a fiery sphere.
The unexpected move disrupted their assault temporarily.
Using this small window of opportunity, Leon casted a lightweight spell on himself and Lanya, pulling her with him. He turned and sprinted toward a nearby horse, launching himself onto its back. In the midst of Lanya’s surprised gasp, they landed on the horse, and Leon quickly took control of the reins. Gripping the reins tightly, Leon held Lanya securely between his arms to prevent her from falling, his focus on ensuring her safety. With a determined expression, he kicked the horse into a gallop.
The remaining lizard-like creature that hadn’t joined the pursuit watched as Leon and Lanya fled, infuriated by their escape. He swung his blade in frustration, venting his anger on the nearby foliage.
Meanwhile, Leon’s escape was met with a mix of astonishment and anger from the lizard attackers.
“Damn, we underestimated them. Chase after them!” the lead lizard person cursed, urging his comrades to pursue.
With determined resolve, Leon guided the horse along the dirt road, his senses keenly attuned to the approaching footsteps and the sound of galloping horses behind him. He knew they were gaining on him, and he had to come up with a plan quickly.
“Lanya, hold on tight!” Leon shouted over the pounding of hooves. He steered the horse off the main road and onto a narrow trail that led into a dense forest.
The horse plunged into the woods, its hooves kicking up dirt and leaves as it maneuvered through the thick undergrowth. The pursuing lizard people followed, their determination unwavering.
Sensing an opportunity, he swung the staff forward, conjuring a magical fog that enveloped the area.
The pursuing lizard assailants entered the fog, their vision greatly impaired. Confusion spread among them as they struggled to navigate through the dense mist. Capitalizing on this chaos, Leon and Lanya were able to move through the fog with relative ease.
Taking advantage of their lead, Leon guided Lanya towards a different path. They managed to escape the magical fog and continue their escape. Leon glanced back to see that they had successfully distanced themselves from their pursuers. The lizard riders were nowhere in sight.
Slowing the horse’s pace to a trot, Leon and Lanya finally had a moment to catch their breath. They rode in silence for a while, the forest providing a serene contrast to the earlier adrenaline-fueled chase.
“Are you okay, Lanya?” Leon finally broke
the silence, his voice filled with concern.
Lanya nodded, her grip on the horse’s mane relaxing. “Yes, I’m fine. Thank you for getting us out of there.”
Leon managed a faint smile. “We’re safe for now, but we need to remain cautious. Those attackers might regroup.”
Lanya nodded in agreement, a mix of relief and lingering fear in her expression. As they continued to ride deeper into the forest, she leaned slightly against Leon, her growing trust in him evident.
As the forest’s embrace enveloped them, Leon reflected on the sudden turn of events. It seemed that their decision to complete the adventurer guild’s registration task had thrust them into unforeseen danger. Despite the uncertainty, a newfound bond was forming between them, forged through danger and survival.
With determination kindling in his heart, Leon looked ahead, his gaze fixed on the path that lay before them. Their trials were far from over, but he was resolved to overcome them and emerge stronger, alongside his newfound companion.
