- Chapter 10: “Trying to steal my spot, huh?”
When Leon and Lanya entered the Emerald Bar, Elise, who was wiping the tables, stopped her actions and glanced at them. She made a disapproving sound and shook her head lightly.
“Look at what he’s done to the girl. You’re really a big pervert.”
Leon ignored her and went to the break room to change clothes. Lanya’s face still looked a bit weak, and she explained, “Please don’t misunderstand, Mr. Leon. It’s my own issue.”
“Really? What did he give you to make you defend him like this?”
Blushing, Lanya replied, “He didn’t give me anything weird. Mr. Leon gave me milk to drink and some snacks. He’s a good person, not a pervert.”
Elise shook her head with a sigh, as if lamenting the downfall of a young girl, and didn’t say much more.
Leon changed into his work uniform, a white shirt, and came out of the break room to prepare for the bar’s opening. He asked Elise, “Elise, bring me a wet towel.”
“You have hands; come and get it yourself.”
Leon chuckled and was about to get the towel when he saw Lanya run to the bucket.
She picked up a towel hanging on the bucket, soaked it, wrung it out, and then ran to the bar. Standing on her tiptoes, she raised the wet towel above her head and handed it to him.
“Here, the towel.”
Leon smiled and thanked her, taking the towel. He also took a bottle of liquor from the counter behind him and began wiping it while saying to himself, “Should I suggest to the boss to hire an obedient and cute apprentice? But the bar is not that big, and four employees seem like too many.”
He paused for a moment, suddenly coming up with a good idea.
“Right, how about downsizing?”
Elise couldn’t hold back anymore and exploded, “You jerk! If anyone gets downsized, it should be you!”
Leon laughed, “I didn’t say I would fire you. Why are you so worked up?”
“Who’s worked up? I’m not!” Elise replied, but she looked like an angry little lioness, lacking any convincing power.
Lanya, standing at the bar, had bright eyes. If she could really work here, she wouldn’t have to worry about food and drink.
“Such a lively morning already? I haven’t even opened, and I can hear Elise shouting,” the sound of wind chimes rang at the entrance, and Nilu opened the door, smiling.
“So early?”
“Though it’s evening in Leon’s world, it’s eight in the morning on our side of the Aios Continent,” Nilu explained with a smile. (Business )
Leon felt relieved.
Shortly after officially opening for business, the Emerald Sapphire Bar welcomed its first customer of the day. Leon had thought it would be Karina, but unexpectedly, it was the red large lizard that claimed to be Prince Lieyang.
As Prince Lieyang entered the bar, he didn’t look as arrogant as yesterday and directly went to sit at the bar counter.
“Give me that thing from yesterday, the Long Island Tea.”
“It’s called Long Island Iced Tea.”
“Yeah, whatever, just bring it to me quickly.”
Leon smiled and prepared a Long Island Iced Tea for him. This time, Prince Lieyang didn’t pour it into his mouth like he did yesterday but instead used his slender forked tongue to gently stir the drink in the glass, his face showing an expression of enjoyment.
Though it looked a bit weird, Leon felt satisfied that the customer was enjoying the drink he prepared.
Suddenly, Prince Lieyang retracted his tongue and asked, “Why does it taste different from yesterday?”
“Is it better or worse?”
Leon already knew the answer to this question, but he wanted to hear it from the customer himself.
“The taste is crisper than yesterday, and the lingering liquor fragrance on the tip of the tongue lasts longer. Compared to today’s glass, yesterday’s one was like an amateur’s work.”
Leon smiled with satisfaction and explained, “When a cocktail is crafted, it carries the bartender’s efforts and emotions. Even for the same person and ingredients, slight differences in the bartender’s physical condition, emotional state, and technique will make the drinks unique.”
Prince Lieyang showed an understanding expression, then suddenly asked, “So, you were just half-heartedly making my drink yesterday?”
“Customer, you’re kidding. Yesterday, I just happened to be in a bad state.”
When Leon made the drink for Prince Lieyang yesterday, his emotions were turbulent, and he had completely lost his composure. He relied purely on instincts to make the cocktail, which naturally didn’t have any difference from ordinary ones.
But Prince Lieyang, although a lizard, seemed to understand a bit about tasting drinks; otherwise, he wouldn’t be able to detect the difference between two glasses of the same cocktail.
“I have to admit, yesterday you were like a foolish frog. You look much better today.”
Prince Lieyang scanned Leon and finally reluctantly believed his explanation.
Leon smiled faintly, taking his words as praise.
“In that case, you qualify,” Prince Lieyang suddenly said.
Leon was taken aback, “Qualify for what?”
“The qualification to follow the future Emperor of the Galama Empire, to serve me and make exquisite drinks for me. In return, I will bestow wealth and status upon you. If you perform well, you might even marry one of the noble princesses and join the esteemed imperial family.”
Prince Lieyang took out a ruby from his pocket and casually threw it on the bar counter. The gem looked like a blood diamond, shimmering with a splendid colour under the lights.
He tapped his claws gently on the glass beside him, speaking as if he were a true king.
Leon found it somewhat amusing. Was he suggesting that Leon should marry a female lizard?
How ridiculous.
“Thank you for your kindness, but I only want to be a free bartender, presenting exquisite drinks to more customers,” Leon replied.
“You should think it over. If you miss this opportunity, no matter how much you beg me in the future, it won’t work,” Prince Lieyang said in surprise, emphasizing once again.
“I’m telling you, go with him. The Galama Empire is one of the strongest countries on the Aios Continent. Following this noble prince will ensure a bright future for you,” Elise also came to the bar counter, encouraging Leon to leave.
Prince Lieyang turned his head, looking surprised at Elise.
“Woman, I have to admit, I’m starting to like you.”
“Thanks, but shut up.”
“You-!”
Prince Lieyang glanced at Elise’s rolled-up sleeve and swallowed the rest of his words.
Though those hands were slender and fair like jade, they contained terrifying power.
At this moment, Leon smiled and said, “Thank you both for your kindness, but everyone has their own goals. I only want to be a free bartender, offering the charm of fine drinks to more customers.”
*Clap, clap, clap!*
“Good for you!”
Applause resounded from the entrance. A young man with short white hair and fair skin, who no one knew when he entered, walked to the bar counter and sat down, taking the seat to the left of Prince Lieyang.
A small arm with clenched fist stretched in front of Prince Lieyang, showcasing its slender wrist and tiny fist, yet it sent a chilling sensation down Prince Lieyang’s spine.
“Trying to steal my spot, little lizard~”
