Thank you so much Shinaenae for buying me a coffee. I really do appreciate your support and dedicate today’s chapter to you!!
“Then you must be in the middle of a swordsmanship class right now.”
Rithaus asked, taking off the gloves he was wearing.
I nodded, and Rithaus threw his gloves at my direction.
Rithaus’ gloves flew over the table.
“Do you understand what I’m saying? This is how knights ask each other to duel.”
What is it with this guy? Unlike the character I knew, he is very cocky.
The Rithaus I read in the original story was a very sweet and a caring character, but was that part of him just limited to Franz?
“Let’s have a couplet. If you manage to make me feel threatened even once during the time limit, I’ll admit defeat and break off the engagement.”
This miserable bastard.
What? You will break off the engagement?
I clenched my fists and glared at Lithaus.
“Okay, I accept it.”
What the heck, I’ll give him the match he wants. Then a second, even a third one! No, I’ll just push him to the edge and make him cry.
My body lacks discipline right now.
But on the other hand. I really want to break the bridge of his nose.
Rithaus was guided by his servant as he went first to the training hall, while I went to my room and changed into my training clothes.
I removed my makeup, tied up my black hair and left the room.
By the time I entered the training grounds, thinking of a way to win the match somehow, Rithaus was already ready.
At that moment, I saw Rithaus’ eyes widen when he saw me.
He just stared blankly at me until I came closer towards him.
“What are you staring at?”
After finding my pace quickly, Rithaus was given a practice rapier by the assistant trainer.
“I just thought you looked like Franz.”
In the midst of all this, he’s still thinking about Franz. I have to admit, he really loves him.
Certainly, Franz and I had a pretty similar face.
From our dark hair to our blue eyes and delicate features.
Since we’re siblings, there’s nothing new about it, but Rithaus is basically Franz’s fan.
While we wear our protective gear, Rithaus spoke up once more.
“The young lady looks better without any makeup.”
As he put on the protective gloves, I paused for a moment.
Can I say something rude back to him?
No, let’s stop.
He must have meant it as a compliment, and I don’t really feel like pointing out his slip of tongue.
“I’m glad you’re not being talkative.”
Open your mouth again and I’ll break you completely.
The decision will be made by a knight from our family.
The knight brought an hourglass smaller than his palm from the storage room.
Judging from its’ size, the sand will fall for about 15 to 20 minutes.
“The time limit is 15 minutes. Once Lady Kayla hits Lord Rithaus, she wins. On the other hand, if she doesn’t manage to make a single hit, it will be a victory for Lord Rithaus.”
No matter how long it’s been since I possessed Kayla’s body, it’s only been recently since I have held a sword, and even though I don’t know the basics of swordsmanship, I honestly thought I would be okay.
But it turns out I was being very full of it.
Chaeng! With the sound, the practice rapier I was holding flew in one shot.
It was because I tried holding the sword with one hand to avoid being ridiculed by Rithaus.
“What’s with that posture? You don’t even know the basics.”
Rithaus was aiming at my handle again, so I grabbed the handle with both hands to prevent him from doing so.
Right hand up, left hand down, and last little finger relaxed.
Even though my body changed, I habitually moved based on the fundamentals of kendo posture.
But Lithaus’ rapier bent and struck mine after gaining momentum.
The force of the recoil was so strong that the sword easily fell out of my hand.
This happened over and over again.
“You know what? I am trying to be as considerate as possible to the young lady so that the blade doesn’t touch your body.”
You don’t have to tell me, I already know that!
“Do you know how elegant Franz is when using the sword? The young lady can’t surpass a person with such talent just as she pleases!”
It’s really humiliating.
If it wasn’t for this swordsmanship method!
If I could just do it my way, I would have ended the bastard in an instant.
As I grind my teeth, Rithaus’ attack came towards me again.
Once again, with the sound of the blade, my sword was about to slip out of my hand.
I hurriedly grabbed the handle and corrected my disheveled posture, but Rithaus did not miss this time.
The tip of Rithaus’ sword is going straight to my face.
The moment I panicked because I couldn’t avoid it, Rithaus’ sword stopped right in front of me.
“The sand is almost done falling in the hourglass. If this is a real battle, the young lady would have died several times.”
As Rithaus said, if it had been a real battle, I would have been mutilated already.
I couldn’t refute him.
“In swordsmanship, the basics are important, but the most important thing is practice. Do you have the confidence in dealing enemies attacking from all sides? The life of a knight is not as simple as the lady thinks.”
Actual battles, enemies attacking.
Ah, for a moment there I felt like I had been hit on the head by Rithaus’ words.
“Practice battles are more important than learning the basics……”
Rithaus made me realize what I had forgotten.
I turned my head towards the hourglass.
There was about 3 minutes of sand falling left.
“Wait, I want to change my weapon!”
I threw the rapier away and snatched a sword from the belt of a knight who was watching the referee.
“Lend me this.”
I pulled out the sword from the scabbard and threw it to the knight, now I only have the scabbard in my hands.
(*scabbard and sword sheath are the same)
The light sword sheath is made out of hard leather.
“I’ll use this for the rest of the time.”
“Are you kidding me? This can’t even hurt a child.”
Ignoring Rithaus, who sighed disapprovingly, I just went straight to attack.
The sword sheath is light. That’s true.
It’s hollow, there’s no sense of hitting with this, and you can’t hurt anyone.
But in this match, none of that matters.
I only have to win once against Lithaus.
Without hesitation, I dug into the gaps between Rithaus and I.
Rithaus, who was caught off guard, raised his sword and tried to block me, but my eyes, which are finally free from following swordsmanship rules, followed Rithaus’ movements.
My eyes, which had been obsessed learning the basic sword method and couldn’t see anything, are finally seeing things clearly.
Finally, I managed to strike with a sword sheath and won.
“If this was an actual battle, and what I had in my hand was a real sword, the Lord would have fallen with his throat cut off as well.”
I was able to aim at Rithaus’ neck in one go in the most comfortable position, with a comfortable stride, and a comfortable sword technique.
The hourglass was still dripping with the sand.
“Even so, I’m still having trouble with the basics in swordsmanship, but thank you for giving me the directions, Lord Rithaus.”
In the end, after the match, my engagement with Rithaus has been annulled as if it never happened.
