10711-chapter-38

The man’s expression became fierce. As he took a step closer, Anita instinctively stepped back. It seemed like the situation, which had been almost over, was gradually deteriorating.

“That’s just nonsense from ignorant fools. We have a different relationship…”

The man’s confident expression froze. His gaze, which had been directed towards Anita, shifted away, avoiding her and focusing on something else. She turned her head—or at least tried.

But it was no use, because someone put an arm around her shoulders.

“So, this is the real stalker.”

It was partially true, but considering the circumstances, Anita chose to remain silent.

“Don’t interfere; just go your way.”

Ignoring the man’s irritated tone, Edmund turned his head towards Anita.

“Did you forget you had lunch plans with me?”

“Oh, sorry. I forgot.”

Anita tried to act as if she were apologizing.

“What’s going on between you two?”

Judging by the man’s tone, it didn’t seem like he was genuinely curious.

“What’s going on?”

Edmund responded with a bright voice, as if he had been waiting for that question. He pulled Anita a bit closer.

“It’s hard to define with one word. Let’s say we’re closer than you are.”

Defining the relationship between Edmund and Anita with one word was difficult because they didn’t have any relationship at all. However, the man, unaware of this fact, became visibly angry. His complexion changed faster than a chameleon, turning red and blue.

“You! Not enough of him, Now it’s the two of you?”

He unexpectedly confronted Anita, who was standing quietly.

“Whether it’s two or ten, I don’t think it’s any of your business.”

“Isn’t it better than mistaking zero for one? That’s quite rude, you know.”

Her face, already far from perfect, crumpled even more at Anita’s words. Anita revisited what she had said, wondering if she had uttered something so harsh.

It seemed like an overly sensitive reaction to something that didn’t seem to exist.

“You, you think you know who I am…!”

“I know who you are. Charles Bennett. This is his third year at Aberdeen, and he’s been in a bit of trouble, aren’t you?”

Charles Bennet. Anita heard his name for the first time today.

“His father is Direlle Bennet. A distant descendant of the Baron Bennet…”

Anita stared up at him in disbelief as he spoke. How could he remember all that?

“Last year alone, the student council received more than five proposals from you. You look eerily familiar, and you seem to bear a slight resemblance to Baron Bennett?”

“…Yes, I’ve been told that.”

“As student council president, I’m asking you to behave yourself, please. Do you know how many times you’ve woken me up from a nap?”

His voice contained a faint trace of anger. It seemed he had been tormented by numerous proposals.

“It’s people like you that make me….”

Edmund’s voice dropped to a nearly inaudible level. Anita couldn’t see his face because she was standing in the same direction as him, but she could tell by the way Charles stumbled backwards that he was terrified.

“What did you just say…?”

“Just go.”

He wished he could just go when given the chance, but he still had some pride left, so he decided to come.

“I’m not going to let this slide, and I’m going to see if you can get away with threatening me like this, even though you’re the student council president!”

Anita was speechless; the man who had been so frightening and intimidating in front of her was making such a stupid declaration, falling for Edmund’s childish provocation.

She realized something: if you want to catch evidence, instead of setting traps by exposing suspicious behavior, it’s more efficient to plead in a childish way.

“Oh, I see. If I wanted, I could have become the Student Council President by my own choice, but I was handpicked by the chairman of the board, the Earl of Aberdeen. Guess who gets expelled?”

After all those bad words about my grandfather, now he’s putting them to good use. Anita looked at Edmond with an embarrassed face.

“Why?”

“It’s nothing.”

Edmond, the chairman, and the visibly attractive person attracted more attention as the crowd around them grew.

Initially worried about his authority, Anita tried to stop him, but decided not to. She realized that she didn’t need to worry about her image since she was appointed by the board of directors, not by the students.

Unknowingly, Anita merged with the crowd and watched the two fight, but then she realized. This was not the time for this.

She’d been prepared for a certain amount of attention when dealing with Charles Bennett, but she’d never expected such a large audience.

Or maybe it was a good opportunity to reveal his crimes in front of people?

It didn’t seem like a bad idea.

But on second thought, it wasn’t quite realistic: He’d been following Anita all along, and even by his own admission, there was no clear evidence.

After Anita sprinkled the powder, she found it hard to breathe, and she wiped every corner of the room with a mop. His fingerprints, hair, footprints, everything would have disappeared. What a stupid thing to do. I’ve virtually destroyed the evidence with my own hands.

Anita sighed quietly.

At least she learned about his identity, so there was some gain, right?

“Who is the stalker?!”

Charles Bennet’s loud shout shattered Anita’s contemplation. Looking at the situation, it seemed that Edmund had called him a stalker.

“Shut up. Stalking is an expulsion offense.”

“Do you think scaring people like that will work?”

Charles raised his voice, veins bulging on his neck. Anita took a step back from him. She didn’t do anything, but it felt like sparks might fly.

“Who said anything about scaring you? I’m just stating the facts. Why are you being so long-winded about it?”
