Chapter 7

It took less than an hour to pack my bags. There was not even a single murmur in the mansion, as it was the Count had who ordered it.

I left the mansion as if I were a guest who was scheduled to stay until today.

“Miss. Please stay healthy.”

Despite my dissuasion, only Mary came out to see the carriage off.

“Okay, come on in.”

I ended my greeting in a hurry, fearing that Aeon might also target Mary. I left the place I thought was my home.

The distance from the familiar building became increasingly distant. And finally, a scenery I had never seen before unfolded before my eyes.

‘I guess it’s near the hunting ground.’

It wasn’t like I was going on an outing, but the scenery outside was actually nice.

Nevertheless, the reason I had been keeping my eyes fixed outside the window ever since I got into the carriage was because of the killer who was sitting across from me.

No matter how hard you try not to look straight ahead, you have no choice but to be aware of it. I don’t know if it was because of the small space or because of that damned subordination contract, but a numbing cold feeling penetrated my entire body.

‘Should I call it dying? Ha, I’m going crazy.’

Her chest was tight and her heart was beating faster and faster. I felt like I would suffocate or faint if I continued like this.

‘Okay, let’s just talk.’

I opened my mouth.

“A carriage…. you’re more romantic than I thought.”

She thought that if she met the killer, she would freeze and say nothing.

The reality was a little different. I was the type of person who, when faced with a reality couldn’t handle being calm and would turn my brain off and start talking nonsense about everything.

Unfortunately, I only found out about it after meeting Aeon.

She didn’t know if she wanted to deny the reality or was it the fear that has paralyzed her reasoning.

It seemed to her to be some kind of defense mechanism. She said,

“I thought you could do some space-travel magic.”

“There’s no need to rush, right? Besides, with such a beautiful lady by my side, it would be nice to spend time leisurely in the carriage.”

Aeon’s mouth curved up and he smiled. The only thing with which he smiled was his mouth. His eyes were still exploring every part of my body.

No matter how much he pretended to be an ordinary person, he couldn’t fool me who knew his original story.

I stared at the pattern engraved on the inside of my wrist. It was a pattern created as a result of a subordination contract with Aeon. It was literally like a stigma attached on the slaves.

Did Aeon have subordination contracts with all the other people who died as well? In that case, it was understandable that the main characters, could not find any traces of the murder.

“Can a subordinate commit suicide if the master of the contract orders death?”

“Well, I never thought about such an order. Isn’t it so terrible to kill someone?”

‘Liar. Of course you killed them.’

“It would be difficult and a waste for the master if he worked hard to acquire a subordinate and then they die. It’s much more fun to keep it alive than to be dead.”

Correct. Aeon was not lying, he was telling the truth. This time, his lips didn’t even touch my body, but I felt like my whole body was frozen.

“A dead person quickly loses his/her color. For example… The beautiful eyes that seem to contain greenery will be withering away.”

Aeon looked carefully into my eyes. His eyes felt like a tongue which was sucking on a candy cane. I opened my mouth again, even though I knew there was no benefit to it but this topic clung to me so persistently.

“It seems like the technology here is still lacking. In some places I know, people even transplant eyeballs from the corpses. To be exact, it’s not the eyeball, but the cornea.”

At this point, words began to come out without going through the brain. This was because the brain was busy thinking about more important things and did not have time to participate in the conversation.

“That’s an interesting story. Then it would be possible to preserve a human body as if it were still alive.”

While my so called ‘Brave Mouth’ dealt with the killer, I examined the carriage door. The doorknob hanging inside had a simple structure that could be opened by simply tapping it with your hand.

‘Escape from the carriage…. Can I do it?’

I didn’t know that jumping out of a moving carriage was dangerous. Still, it was better than being dragged by Aeon like this.

Moreover, the place where the carriage is running now is above the hunting ground.

It was a hill. Here, I could hide from Aeon.

One thing that bothered me was the subordination contract. Thinking back on the explanation, it seemed like even if I ran away, he would be able to figure out my location in no time.

‘No. I can take this risk.’

He was a man who loved to lie. Maybe he just said it to scare me.

It was better to give it a try than to be scared and do nothing.

“Miss Selinia.”

Suddenly he called my name. I faced him.

“Miss Selinia?”

It wasn’t like he was just calling me. This was meant as a warning from him.

I know what you’re thinking. Don’t act hastily.

It was clear when I saw the smile on Aeon’s lips.

“Lord Magic Tower, you know what I’m trying to do, right?”

“If you mean about wanting to do that stupid thing. Of course, I’m hoping that it’s just Miss Selinia’s imagination. You are a wizard, not a knight.”

“That’s right. Working with one’s physical ability is not my area of ??expertism.”

As I said that, I quickly counted the numbers in my mind.

‘One, two, three.’

It was a spell I chanted often to get rid of the fear inside me.
